We don't sell Ubiquiti but we've had two calls in the last two days from random people wanting service as their Sonos suddenly stopped working when connected WiFi with Ubiquiti. All other devices work fine on WiFi One of the customers says that when he connects an Ethernet cable from his Sonos device to his router, it works fine.

We haven't gotten out to investigate yet but I wanted to see if this is a thing. Sonos doesn't know of an issue. Thanks in advance. We haven't received any reports, however, all of our systems use SonosNet. I believe that Sonos pushed out an update on Tuesday and that there was some drama associated with the update.

I received one report that "Update Failed" and we had some trouble for a few hours when attempting to install AMP. On February 14, atpunter16 said It isn't with just Airplay We're going out to one of these houses tomorrow and we'll see if SonosNet works. It's odd that we got 2 calls in 2 days about this issue and we rarely have network problems with Sonos at all.

These were jobs that had been working for years. We did all the normal things that would normally address this.I solved this by physically separating my access points and then giving them the same SSID, password and channel. Not ideal in some ways but these are dedicated 2. I can set up the system with the help of Sonos Boost, but as soon as my controller switches APs it cannot find a single speaker. I don't think having the same credentials and channel is necessary in Boost mode.

Best answer by myatix 8 January You may need to tweak STP settings if you have smart switches and wire more than one Sonos. I wired all the easy ones here and stability went up. I have read numerous posts including a few recent posts about getting Sonos speakers to work on enterprise level equipment.

I had done this for some time with no ill effects on any of my 75 or so devices, including my SONOS players. Unifi allows the MAC address of specified devices to be exempted from this multicast restriction.

But all this raises a question. How exactly does the Move work? All the other players are connected wirelessly with the Boost as my root device. Note that I have lots of wired connections available, but, despite running STP on all my switches, I would get broadcast storms every now and then until I pulled the CAT5 plugs on all my players and settled on all wireless connections.

Anyway, I hope this saves someone a few hours of trial and error debugging for your new Move player. It might have been nice if Sonos had pointed out this very important fact in their MOVE user information! This would probably save them a lot of time on support calls as well.

TIP: Sonos Move Player and Ubiquiti Unifi settings

Background: I live in 4 floor concrete house a wifi dead zone. I have Sonos in 4 rooms. With all 4 rooms wireless I had a few issues. I was suffering with dropouts, rooms would disappear. It sucked. So I hardwired a speaker. Stability improved massively. No more missing rooms some dropouts.

However, I noticed that all of my Sonos speakers were connecting to the network via the single speaker which was sub optimal. So next I wired up a few more speakers but they refused to connect over the wired cable preferring to mesh with their buddy. So after much gnashing of teeth and lots of pawing through community pages I did some tweaking on the spanning tree settings. Below are some tips for running a mixed wired and wireless setup.

Changing the switch settings on the managed switch means that a wired Sonos device will connect via the wired connection then if it can't it will connect wirelessly via an access point or via Sonos mesh through a visible wired Sonos device. APs - Access points have powerful radios loud voices. Most devices using Wifi don't quiet voices. By dropping Transmit power down to 'low' or 'medium' it means that a wireless device will most of the time chose the closest Access Point.

This prevents the following scenario: a Sonos speaker quiet voice on the second floor hearing and connecting to a basement AP loud voice but not having the power to broadcast to the basement AP. If you only have wired players have you tired shutting of the WiFi in them. Another question: what are the STP settings in the switch? Some of those systems are still running fine to this day. It might just depend on the network hardware, etc. Usually a reboot of all the DirecTV stuff would fix it. Start there. What version of the STP protocol are you using in your Ubiquiti switch?

If it is set to RSTP change it to classic spanning tree I have experienced the exact scenario you are describing with nearly identical equipment.

I don't know your specific network topology but I would assume you would want your switch to be the root bridge as it is likely directly connected to your router. The root bridge should lay closest to the destination router in your case in order to provide the least amount of hops for data to travel. You can force the switch to be root bridge.

I would also set the priority for the Ubiquiti switch to 0 or in the STP configuation. This will ensure it is the root bridge. Sonos priorities default to Setting the priority to a lower number 0 or will force the device to be root. If a matching priority number exists the MAC address is used to determine root.
